Finite element simulation of fiber pullout in fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composites

2007
The separation characteristics of composite interface were described by adopting cohesive zone model. The meso-demage and fracture process of fiber pullout of the ceramic matrix composites were stimulated by means of finite element numerical method and the load displacement curve of the pullout process were also calculated. The effects of the interfacial bond strength, the embedded length of fiber and the thermal expansion coefficient on the fiber pullout process were studied. The results showed that the model could explain the fracture process of fiber pullout well. The maximal pullout force and the load carrying capacity increased with the above factors increasing. The disagreement between fiber and thermal expansion coefficient affect the pullout force directly.
