Investigação de borrelia sp. na reserva biológica de duas bocas, área de interesse epidemiológico no estado do Espirito Santo, Brasil

2019
Lyme disease (DL) is a zoonosis transmitted by ticks and caused by bacteria of the genus Borrelia. It has variable clinical and chronic evolution, being considered a severe disabling illness. In Brazil, it is diagnosed in all regions, with the highest number of cases recognized for the State of Espirito Santo (ES). However, the predisposing and determinant factors for the maintenance and transmission of its bioagent are not yet identified in the country, which critically limits preventive and control actions. The identification of the species of circulating spores in the study area will allow to infer about the fauna of vectors and vertebrates involved in the DL cycle, as well as guiding actions in health. The objective of this project is the characterization of the cycle of Borrelia sp. in the biological reserve of Duas Bocas, Cariacica / ES, an area considered as an active focus of DL and with an ecoepidemiological scenario favorable to the circulation of this bioagent. Between November 2016 and August 2018 two investigations were made in the reserve area. A total of 5,833 specimens of potential vectors were collected and 145 vertebrate specimens were captured. Nine hundred and twelve specimens of potential vectors, distributed in 233 samples, and 24 blood samples have been submitted to Polymerase Chain Reaction to investigate fragments of the 16S gene, specific for Borrelia spp. No analyzed sample was considered positive.
