Health Practice Development for Tuberculosis Patients at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases

Abstract The aim of this study was to assess a health promotion program for tuberculosis patients in health practice development. Thirty tuberculosis patients who attended the Out-patient Department of the Hospital for Tropical Diseases were studied. The average age of both sexes was 42 years. The patients were divided into 5 groups (6 patients in each group). Education level varied between prathom 6 to bachelor degree. Health promotion consisted of health education, including the demonstration of drug administration, exchange of experiences and health practice development evaluation. Fifty minutes per day per week for 8 weeks were used for the program period. Pre- and post-tests were done by standardized questionnaires. Paired comparison t-test were used for the analysis of the results. The results showed that knowledge, attitude and practice about tuberculosis, after receiving the health promotion program, were statistically significantly better than before receiving the health promotion program.
