Automatic extraction of abnormal areas on CT images of the lung area

Recently, many CAD systems are developed in medical image processing field. Especially, segmentation and detection of the abnormal area are one of the important techniques for analyzing the medical image. To segment or detect the abnormal area, many image processing techniques are applied onto medical system. In this paper, we propose a method for automatic segmentation of lung areas and extraction of abnormal areas on the extracted lung regions. In the experiment, we apply our technique to 12 real MDCT image sets and satisfactory segmentation results are achieved and the abnormal candidate areas are extracted correctly.
