The Coverage Theory and the Delta Model Approximation

2017
This chapter provides an introduction to the coverage theory based on the simple Delta model with the substrate modeled assuming the Gaussian height density. The Delta model introduces the reader to the operating principle of the coverage spectroscopy method, and it gives a clear picture of the potentiality of this new technique. In this simplified context, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are considered as ideal cylinders crossing each other at integer multiples of the nominal diameter. Several simulations are then presented to verify the self-consistency of the new coverage solution method, testing of the Delta model approximation onto several atomic force microscopic measurements of CNT depositions.
