Semen analysis and male fertility.

Aspects of semen analysis and male infertility are reviewed. The process of spermatogensis and the role of the various components of the male reproductive tract are discussed. Methods of semen analysis are described with emphasis on the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of spermatozoa. Male infertility is discussed in relation to its pretesticular testicular and posttesticular etiology and alterations in spermatogenesis and semen quality. The importance of a thorough personal history and examination of the infertile patient is discussed.
