Peculiarities of thermal decomposition of metastable lithium cobaltites

2013
Chemical deintercalation was used to obtain samples of defective lithium cobaltite formed during charging and discharging in chemical power sources. A study was carried out on the processes occurring upon heating of low-temperature and high-temperature modifications of lithium-deficient cobaltites. Thermal analysis and magnetic susceptibility methods were used to show that the decomposition of metastable cobaltites Li1–x CoO2 is accompanied by the separation of cobalt oxide Co3O4 and oxygen, while the major decomposition product is stoichiometric lithium cobaltite.
