The invention discloses a service capability detection method and apparatus. The m method comprises: a first network element sends a first detection request message to a second network element, wherein the first detection request message is used for detecting whether the second network element supports one or more designated services; and the first network element receives first feedback information sent by the second network element, wherein the first feedback information is used for indicating supporting situations of the second network element to the one or more designated services. With the method and apparatus, a problem that a network element at one end can not obtain a service supported by a network element at the other end in the correlated technology can be solved; and thus a network element at one end can obtain a service supported by a network element at the other end.
