My C.H.O.I.C.E: Choosing Healthy Options in the Childhood Experience, A Resident-Led School Based Health Education Program

Background: Childhood obesity is a major epidemic incurring high healthcare costs and health ramifications. During the 2012-2014 school years, 23.6% of the students attending the local school district studied were obese. In pre-adolescents, the targeted population, the national obesity rate in 2011-2015 was 25% for the Hispanic population. With the majority of the target student population comprising of students of Hispanic ethnicity, this is a community of need.
