The World’s population is increasingly ageing, as people are living longer and the babyboomer generation begins to reach age 65. This demographic shift will have many consequences, one of which is an increased burden of care for people with dementia, since its prevalence increases exponentially with age. More than 35 million people worldwide are now living with dementia and this number is expected to double by 2030 and more than triple by 2050. This, together with the high cost of long-term neurological care, means that dementia is an escalating international crisis [1]. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia.
