The January census covered the four largest islands (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera). In total, 25.183 birds of 69 different species have been counted; 76,89 % of individuals were counted in Mallorca, 16,43 % in Menorca, 5,58 % in Ibiza and 1,10 % in Formentera. The most abundant species were the waterfowl with 9.475 birds, 586 Little and Black-necked Grebes, 5.001 rails (Rallidae) of which 3.399 were Eurasian Coots, 4.428 waders with predominance of Northern Lapwings Vanellus vanellus, Kentish Plovers, Charadrius alexandrinus and Common Snipes Gallinago gallinago. It is also worth noting two rarities: A Mute Swan, Cignus olor and a Caspian Tern, Hydroprogne caspia.
