A method and a system for locating a vehicle in a digital map includes that GPS coordinates of the vehicle are generated on the traveling road, and a digital map which is traveled by the vehicle of a region, based in on the location of the GPS coordinates a database is fetched. The digital map covers a geographical mapping of a traveling road and registered objects on the roadside. The registered roadside objects are technically identified position in the digital map by latitude and longitude coordinates. Roadside objects in the region, which is traveled are detected by the vehicle. The captured roadside objects are identified on the digital map. A vehicle position on the traveling road is determined using coordinates of the detected objects on the roadside, which were identified in the digital map. The position of the vehicle is located on the road as a function of GPS coordinates and the determined using the coordinates of the detected objects on the roadside vehicle position.
