Phytochemical, Pharmacological and Unani Traditional Uses of Mazoo (Quercus infectoria): A Review

Quercus infectoria (Family: Fagaceae) generally recognized as gall oak, is a trifling shrub originate in Greece, Asia Minor and Iran is predictably assumed to have enormous therapeutic status. There are two varieties of mazoo; one is solid type with no hole on its surface and another is light weighted hold cavity inside and hole on its surface but solid type is medicinally better. Pharmacologically, various animal and human studies have been done over medicinal properties of the galls and claimed that galls have various biological activities such as astringent effect, anti tremorine, local anesthetic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, and many more. It has a properties to treat female reproductive issues like menorrhagia and cervicitis. Here we revealed numerous research-based review of Quercus infectoria over almost all human system. Further research is required to appraise the efficacy, safety, and properties of Quercus infectoria and expand the quality of life.
