Variante genética da interleucina- 1α em idosos portadores de doença periodontal

2014
Introduction: Genetic factors contribute to the risk of periodontal disease (PD) in the elderly. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the association between periodontal disease and interleukin-1α gene polymorphism in elderly. Methods: The study included 110 elderly (mean age: 67.26 ± 4.9 years), 52.7% female gender. PD was diagnosed using the index PIP according to the World Health Organization criteria. The genetic polymorphism was analyzed by polymerase chain reaction followed by cleavage with restriction enzyme NcoI. Results: There was no statistically significant association between the polymorphism in the gene for IL-1α and periodontal disease, according to Chi-square test (p>0.05). This finding suggests that this polymorphism should not be a genetic factor leading to the development of PD. Conclusions: Genetic polymorphism at position -899 of the IL-1α gene not influences the prevalence and / or severity of the DP in the elderly.
