Partial wave analysis of the {ital K}{sup 0}{sub {ital s}}{ital K}{sup {plus_minus}}{pi}{sup {minus_plus}} system

1996
We have measured the quantum numbers {ital J}{sup {ital PG}} of the {ital K}{sub {ital sK}}{sup {plus_minus}}{pi}{sup {minus_plus}} system produced in the diffraction dissociation process {ital pp}{r_arrow}{ital p}{sub {ital f}}({ital K}{sup 0}{sub {ital s}}{ital K}{sup {plus_minus}}{pi}{sup {minus_plus})}{ital p}{sub {ital s}} at 800 GeV/c. We observe two clear peaks at 1282{plus_minus}0.6 MeV/c{sup 2}, {Gamma}=25{plus_minus}0.5 MeV/c{sup 2} and 1432{plus_minus}0.6 MeV/c{sup 2}, {Gamma}=51{plus_minus}0.9 MeV/c{sup 2}. A partial wave analysis shows that the resonances we observe have {ital J}{sup {ital PG}}=1{sup ++}{ital a}{sub 0}{pi} for the first peak, and {ital J}{sup {ital PG}}=1{sup ++}{ital K}{asterisk}{ital K} for the second peak. Thus, they can be identified as the {ital f}{sub 1}(1285) and {ital f}{sub 1}(1420), respectively. No evidence for a signal at {approx_equal}1510 MeV/c{sup 2} is obtained. {copyright} {ital 1996 American Institute of Physics.}
