Development of Digital Ballot Paper Counter Box Based on Decoder

2016
One of the major challenges facing the growth and development of developing countries is the inability to conduct a credible election. Election in Nigeria involves a massive deployment of security apparatus across the state to forestall rigging, falsification of results, hijacking of ballot boxes and other political violence heralding the election. In order to minimize these vices, automation of our electoral system is vital and crucial to the development of democracy. This study was the development of the digital ballot paper counter box using IC4518 (BCD) and IC4511 (decoder) as tool for electronic voting in combating rigging and various offences. The system has various units: (i) Power Supply/Rechargeable unit (ii) Transducer unit (iii) Voltage Comparator unit (iv) Detector unit (v) Pulse/Tone generator unit (vi) Counter unit (vii) Display unit. The device was incorporated with a portable battery that can supply the necessary power for more than ten (10) hours and is capable of counting up to the range of 9999.
