Dating of Groundwater in Israeli Aquifers and Determination of Groundwater Flow Velocities

The primary aims of groundwater dating are to determine their sources and to estimate their velocity and direction of their flow. Age and flow velocity of groundwater are necessary for estimation of recharge rate and of the risk of pollution. Older ages usually signify slow recharge rate and no risk of pollution, while the opposite is true for young groundwater. This chapter discuss the different dating methods and applications in Israel.
