CHARMe: Earth observation Metadata and the semantic web

The CHARMe (CHARacterization of Metadata) project aims to improve knowledge sharing in the climate sciences community and to enable users of climate data to judge their fitness for purpose. CHARMe will be an open system, enabling users and providers of climate data to share their knowledge with the community in the form of 'annotations' recorded and made available alongside the data themselves. This open and community-driven system, based on semantic web concepts, should both provide a useful tool for climate scientists and data providers, and contribute to the emerging area of 'climate services', which can be used to guide policy and decision making on climate matters.
