Gender Issues: A Feminist Critical Discourse Study of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House

The present study explores gender and power issues discursively constructed and represented in Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House. The main focus in the present study is to analyze and examine gender issues in Norwegian patriarchal society.The aim of the present study is to focus on the language construction through which gender voices are humiliated and discriminated in the play.  The play under study critically analyses the women’s voices subjected to the gender discrimination in patriarchal setup. Critical discourse analysis and feminist critical discourse analysis have been selected as a theory for the current study. Fairclough’sthree-dimensional model (1989) is adopted for methodology and the analysis of the selected data. The study is based on the selected excerpts taken from Henrik Ibsen’s play A Doll’s House.The analysis of the text is conducted to explore and investigate women marginalization, power exercise, patriarchal hegemony and abuse of language in Norwegian Society.
