A major product of the SHRP Long-Term Pavement Performance study in the Information Management System (IMS). It is a data base which will be used for maintaining LTPP data and distributing it to the research community. IMS runs on both personal computer (MS-DOS operating system) and VAX(VAX/VMS operating system) and it is based on the ORACLE relational data base management system. Data will be distributed to the researchers and outside agencies from the national center located at the Transportation Research Board in Washington, D.C. Data are likely to be released in blocks after the data quality checks have been conducted according to SHRP procedures. A need may occur to make modifications in the IMS, especially by the overseas countries participating in the LTPP program. SHRP is developing guidelines regarding how the changess could be handled. This paper describes some preliminary ideas about how different types of changes could be incorporated in the data base in a most efficient and simple manner.
