Numerical Simulation on the Influence of Air Outlet Angles on the Effectiveness of Smoke-preventing Air Curtain

2008
The smoke movement rules in different outlet angles of air curtain were studied by using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). The simulation was based on the second floor of the fire test tower in Sichuan Fire Research Institute of Ministry of Public Security. Through simulation, the optimal outlet angle of smoke-preventing air curtain, with other conditions unchanged, was found out. The results show that, when the outlet angle is respectively 5 degree and 20 degree, the fire smoke can move into the atria through the air curtain in the last stage of the simulation; when the outlet angle is respectively 10 degree and 15 degree, the effectiveness of smoke-preventing air curtain is better than others, especially much better when the angle is 15 degree. Therefore, the optimal air outlet angle of smoke-preventing air curtain is 15 degree.
