RESEARCH ARTICLE ISOLATION & CHARACTERIZATION OF MULTI HEAVY METAL RESISTANT BACILLUS SPP. AND THEIR PLANT GROWTH PROMOTING ACTIVITIES

2013
PGPR can stimulate plant growth directly as they can improve the supply of nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorous and by production of phytohormones. In our present investigation A heavy metal-resistant rhizobacterial strain was isolated from soils of tomato fields in and Allahabad district. and identified as Bacillus spp. based on the Morphological and Biochemical Characterstics. The isolates were found to exhibit different multiple heavy metal resistance characteristics. Test isolates were biochemically characterized and screened in vitro for their plant growth promoting traits like production of indoleacetic acid (IAA), ammonia (NH3), hydrogen cyanide (HCN), and catalase. From 9 soil samples 28 different Bacllius spp. were isolated. Among the 28, five Bacillus spp. (YSY-1 to YSY-5) have effective PGP activities. In eight different Bacillus spp. isolates particularly (YSY-1, YSY-2,) exhibited maximum plant growth promoting traits and isolates (YSY-1, YSY-2 and YSY-5) have high heavy metal tolerance activities.
