Summary Theresults of"25I-fibrinogen legscanning duringlife were comparedwiththefindings ata detailed post-mortem dissection ofthelegveinsin31patients withhipfractures whodiedduringtheperiod ofisotope scanning orwithin sevendaysofthelastscan.Thighscanning onthesideof thehipfracture provedvalueless, andcriteria forthe confident isotopic diagnosis ofvenousthrombosis inthe uninjured thigh couldnotbedetermined. Inthelowerleg adifference inuptakeof20%ormorethatpersisted for 24hoursbetweenadjacent positions ononelegorbetween corresponding positions onthetwolegswasconsistently associated withthepresenceofvenousthrombosis at necropsy.
