MR Diffusion Weighted Imaging in Acute Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis

Objective To investigate the DWI manifestations and mechanism of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis(CVST).Materials and MethodsDWI was performed in 14 patients with acute cerebral venous sinus thrombosis(CVST).Both the DWI and ADC map were analyzed.ResultsOn DWI,among the 14 patients,abnormal intensity signal was found in 13 patients.25 nonhemorrhagic lesions were detected as hyperintensity signal.Apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)values were decreased in 11 lesions and increased in 14 lesions.5 Hemorrhagic lesions were found with hypointensity signal in the centre and hyperintensity signal in outside,ADC values were also decreased.ConclusionThe diffusion weighted imaging manifestations of brain lesions associated with CVST are variable,DWI can confirm pathological process of CVST.
