Tubal ligation through the posterior fornix with the aid of the culdoscope.

Thirty-six patients underwent postpartum tubal ligation via the posterior fornix with the aid of the culdoscope. The operation is performed under local anesthesia. After visualization of the fallopian tubes with a culdoscope the tubes are ligated with excision of a loop of tube. The vaginal incision is closed with figure 8 sutures and air expressed from the peritoneal cavity. Hospital discharge is the same day with follow-up visits on the fifth and fourteenth days.
