Radiation dose estimation to determine the discharged limit from Kartini research reactor

2021
The optimization of the discharged limit from Kartini research reactor based on the effective dose calculation was carried out. The potential discharge from the Kartini reactor is dominantly categorized into two forms, among others radioactive discharged in aerosols form and liquid form. This study determines the discharged limit in form of aerosol, where the main objective of this study is to make sure that the effective dose received by the society surrounding Kartini reactor is below the dose constraint that allowed. Several processes to get the discharged limit optimization in this study is carried out based on the IAEA-TECDOC-1638. The sourceterm calculation is performed using Origen 2.0, and the dose assessment using Hotspot 3.0.2 computer code. The result of the calculation shows that the highest TEDE value is 0.147 mSv, where this value is under the atmospheric stability type C (slightly unstable). This value is still below the half value of dose constraint for the society surrounding nuclear facility i.e. 0.15 mSv. It means the discharged limit value that optimized meets the safety criteria based on the dose constraint authorized by regulatory body (BAPETEN). However, these values are recommended to be used as discharged limit that appointed for Kartini Reactor.
