Socio-Environmental Perils and Eco-friendly Solutions to Salvage Hazardous Washout water Pop-up from Construction Industry
2016
Pollution is a serious environmental threat to the society. Over the years concrete has been used as a staple commodity for the construction of structures. Concrete industry not only consumes enormous amount of fresh water but also generates massive quantity of wastewater. Washout water generated from cleaning process after concreting is hazardous for disposal due to their high pH value (pH >12.5). Improper disposal of such wastewater results in huge menace to eco system. Overview of current state of knowledge about the reuse of hazardous washout water in concrete was briefed. On the basis of identified knowledge, an initial laboratory investigation was conducted and from the test results it is identified that the performance and properties of concrete is not affected by the reuse of this hazardous washout water with potable water in concrete.
