Design of Isolated Bi-Directional Converter for PV System

2018
This paper deals with the study and implementation of the isolated bi-directional converter. It is a dc-dc converter which interfaces the two dc voltage sources. The proposed ideology deals with the isolated bidirectional converter connected between solar photovoltaic generation and energy storage system. This paper gives exposure to the maximum usage of the batteries by controlling the charging and discharging of the batteries. In this scheme power sources are assumed as lithium ion batteries interfaced with bidirectional converter. The solar photovoltaic module is connected on high voltage side of converter; which is output from maximum power point tracker and battery operates at low voltage. This converter has two different modes of operation depending on the power flow; namely buck mode and boost mode. Forward power flow is obtained when power flows from solar modules towards battery; operating in buck mode. On the contrary when power is from low voltage side to load or grid connection side then power flow is reversed and operates in boost mode. The proposed topology is designed for single phase and three phase scheme. Scheme is fortuitously implemented using the MATLAB's Simulink environment using MATLAB version R2015b.
