Influence of a phase transition in a polymer ferroelectric on the spectra of merocyanines

1992
Copolymers of vinylidene fluoride with trifluorethylene were doped successfully by merocyanines with different numbers of links n in a conjugated polyene chain. This made it possible to observe photoelectric sensitivity of copolymers in the visible and ultraviolet ranges and it was found that the photoconductivity increased by several orders of magnitude on reduction in the n from 3 to 1. A structural optical effect was observed and it was manifested by a change in the oscillator strength of the bipolar form of the merocyanine molecule due to a structural phase transition in the ferroelectric polymer
