Study of Single Machine Infinite Bus System with VSC Based Stabilizer

The aim of this paper is to study the damping effect provided by voltage source converter (VSC) based stabilizer and simulations are carried out to investigate its impact on electromechanical oscillation modes (EOMs).This study carried out into three parts. In case 1, no PSS attached; case 2, PSS attached with field winding of AVR system; case 3, Single machine infinite bus system with VSC based stabilizer. The obtained results from case 3 are compared with case 2 to find out the impact on damping of EOMs due to the implementation of VSC based stabilizer. Simulation results presented in this paper revealed that effective damping of EOMs is provided by VSC based stabilizer.
