Numerical study on novel double-layered heat sink with optimized pin fins

A numerical study on the thermal performance of a novel design of double-layered heat sink with optimized pin fins (DL-OPFHS) is presented in this work. It is found that the DL-OPFHS performs better comparing to the conventional double-layered heat sink with staggered circular pin fins (DL-CPFHS) under the same overall geometric dimensions and fixed volume flow rates. The thermal resistance of DL-OPFHS is lower by 28% than that of DL-CPFHS at the inlet velocity of 0.3 m/s.
