Expatriate Chemoprophylaxis Use and Compliance: Past, Present and Future From an Occupational Health Perspective

To the Editor: As written by Toovey and colleagues, 1 there are few actual studies on expatriate chemoprophylaxis use and compliance. Given this paucity of data, we believe that it would be helpful to submit the following data. In 1999 and 2000, we conducted a retrospective cohort analysis by reviewing the pharmacy records and by interviews in person, by telephone, or by e‐mail to evaluate the use and compliance with malaria chemoprophylaxis among an expatriate population living in a residential area in coastal Nigeria. During the study period, 183 households with an average of 1.7 to 2.15 persons per household (depending on year of evaluation) were living in the study area.
