The invention belongs to the technical field of biomass catalysis, and particularly relates to a porous-carbon-supported nano metal oxide material and a preparation method thereof. One or more of tantalum metal salt, niobium metal salt and tungsten metal salt is/are used as a precursor to obtain the porous-carbon-supported nano metal oxide material; and the porous-carbon-supported nano metal oxide material is used as a catalyst to prepare 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and levulinic acid from carbohydrates. The method has the advantages of mild reaction process, environment-friendly catalyst and simple technique, provides a new way for industrialized preparation of platform compounds 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and levulinic acid from biomass sugar, is beneficial to promoting the preparation of petroleum-base chemicals and alternative fuels from biomass, and has very important industrialization meanings.
