Microwave estimation of comfort of textile materials

2002
In order to estimate the comfort and compatibility of materials used for clothes manufacture, the authors propose to measure the factor of electromagnetic radiation using microwave radiometric equipment. Materials were heated in a thermostat with a temperature of 37.0/spl plusmn/0.5/spl deg/C, that corresponds to the temperature of the human body in comfortable climatic conditions. The estimation of emissivity coefficient was carried out at a frequency of 52 GHz. The estimation of microwave radiation has shown, that natural materials (fur, leather, cotton, flax) are the most favorable for the human organism. They are recommended for the manufacture of winter clothes, since in thermal contact with the human body these materials provide the minimum of microwave energy absorption, and thus they do not let the body cool down. For the warm period it is recommended using synthetic and mixed materials.
