According to various embodiments, an illumination assembly (100) may comprise: a gas discharge lamp (102), wherein the gas discharge lamp (102) having an ignition voltage for igniting the gas discharge lamp, a bearing assembly (106) for holding the gas discharge lamp (102), said bearing assembly (106 ) is adapted for reducing the ignition voltage of the gas discharge lamp (102) to an effective self-ignition voltage, a (with the gas discharge lamp 102) electrically coupled driver circuit (104) for operating the gas discharge lamp (102), wherein the driver circuit (104) is arranged, an electric voltage provide that or equal to greater than the effective self-ignition voltage and less than the ignition voltage, so that the gas discharge lamp (102) can be ignited by means of the driver circuit (104).
