The efficacy and safety of pitavastatin in treatment of hypercholesterolemia

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of pitavastatin in treatment of hypercholesterol- emia.Methods:It was a 12-week,prospective,randomized,and doubled-blind PhaseⅡclinical trial.Fifty-two patients with hypercholesterolemia were randomly divided into two groups:atorvastatin 10 mg·d~(-1) for 12 weeks in 22 cases and pitavastatin 1～2 mg·d~(-1) for 12 weeks in 24 cases.Results:After 12 weeks,LDL cholesterol( LDL- C) in pitavastatin group significantly decreased by 40.1% (P0.01),and LDL-C in atorvastatin group signifi- cantly decreased by 33.8% (P0.01).The LDL-C reduction,TG reduction and HDL-C elevation were not signifi- cantly different between two groups (P0.05).Conclusion:Pitavastatin is similar to atorvastatin in reduction of LDL-C and total cholesterol.The adverse reactions of pitavastatin are mild.Pitavastatin can be used in treatment of hypercholesterolemia.
