Platelet Aggregation in Cerebrovascular Patients

1977
The role of platelet embolism in cerebral ischemic lesions has recently been evaluated (Ross Russel, 1968; McBrien et al., 1963). How the platelet embolism is formed has yet to be clarified: is it set off by factors which cause a “physiologic” platelet aggregation, or is there an alteration in the platelets themselves or, more generally, in blood coagulation, which facilitates the occurrence of this phenomenon (Boneau et al., 1972; Danta, 1970). This study will try to show whether, using Born’s method (Born and Cross, 1962), it is possible to discover if there is an enhanced platelet aggregation in patients who have had a cerebral ischemic lesion which could play a part in causing the arterial emboli.
