EffectThe effect of concentrate supplementation on growth performance of weaned lambs of Gezel breed in the pasture

2015
The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of different levels of concentrate feeding on feedlot and growth parameters of weaned Ghezel lambs under pasture. This experiment was conducted by using 32 male Ghezel lamb (average weight 29±3.7). in a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 8 replications per treatments. The experimental treatments were 1) a control treatment with free access to pasture grazing 2) free access to pasture grazing with 150 g of concentrate per day 3) free access to pasture grazing with 250 g of concentrate per day 4) free access to pasture grazing with 350 g of concentrate per day per head. The results showed that feeding concentrate supplement improved the daily weight gain significantly. the best daily weight gain was observed in treatments 4. But no difference was observed by increasing concentrate level. From the growth parameters, only body length was affected significantly by experimental treatments (P>0/05).The effect of concentrate addition on, total protein, albumin, colesterole and urea was not significant (P>0/05), but significant effect were observed on glucose, TG concentrations (P<0.05). the treatments had no significant effect on grazing time under pasture. Based on obtained results, feeding at least 150 g of concentrate supplement, when rearing Ghezel lamb under pasture, was recommended.
