In article the main directions in studying of the Mari village at a new stage of development of historical and sociological science, research of problems of inhabitants of the village of the Republic of Mari El in the 2000th are considered. The main works of historians of lead scientific institutions of the Republic of Mari El are analyzed. Relevance of the new research devoted to an assessment of quality of life of country people of the Republic of Mari El is designated.
