Robust Control of Frequency for Multi-Area Power System

2020
The problem of compensating frequency disruption during load variation is addressed in this article with the help of an optimal control strategy based on linear-quadratic- Gaussian (LQG) controller incorporated with an integral action. The controller is designed and implemented on a two-area interconnected power system to control frequency through load frequency control (LFC). The control scheme includes system uncertainties and disturbances for robust control purpose. Dynamic response of proposed controller is compared with the existing automatic generation control (AGC), proportional- integral-derivative (PID), fuzzy-logic and linear quadratic regulator (LQR) to investigate its capability of handling the impediments associated with the system which indicates remarkable improvement in frequency control of both areas. For the simulation purpose MATLAB/SIMULINK platform is used.
