Analysis of Previous Research Trends about Participatory Design in Public Design & Architecture - Focused on the Research papers of the Korea -

2018
Recently, the demand for people-oriented design is increasing. It is changing from technology-oriented design, which relied on mass production and industrial development in the past, to a design that gives priority to humanity, that is, to meet user needs. In this design paradigm, the concept of public design is changing from a concept that is owned and managed by the public sector to a facility made for public interest. In other words, the present public design aims at the opportunity to pursue the public interest through design and ultimately to raise the quality of life. In order to realize people-centered public design, it should be done for citizens who use the public domain of urban environment. To find out the potential needs of the citizens, their direct participation should be made. The need for a bottom-up public design based on citizen"s opinions is increasingly emphasized rather than a one-sided, top-down public design of the administration. Therefore, this study investigates the literature of previous research related to user "s participation in public design, and grasps the approaches and trends of various researches so as to lay the foundations for basic research in presenting direction of user participation in public design field in the future. This study was carried out by literature survey to analyze the research trends related to "public participation in user participation" in Korea. First, the theoretical background of the background and policy flow of public design and participatory design was given priority. Second, previous studies were collected on domestic papers. The research methods, cases, results and limit points were analyzed by year to analyze the development flow and type of research. Finally, research trends are suggested according to the source, type of research, survey method, subject, keywords and implications. The field of public design suggests the need for continuous research on space - user interaction and relationship. This study has significance as a basic data to search for the differentiation method to set up research topic on public design and architecture through user participation.
