PHYSICAL FITNESS PROFILE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN INCLUSIVE CLASSROOM IN LAGOS NIGERIA: IMPLICATIONS FOREFFECTIVE TEACHING

This study sought to find out the comparative status of physical fitness profile of public and private secondary school teachers in Lagos Mainland Local Government Area of Lagos state. Six physical fitness variables of abdominal strength, upper body muscle strength muscle endurance, body composition, flexibility,aerobic fitness. The participants used for the study were drawn from both public and private secondary schools within the Local Government Area. The instrument used for the study were a fitness test battery made up of flexed knee situp to test abdominal muscle strength within sixty seconds, sit and reach – this is to test hamstring flexibility,aerobic exercise – this is to test aerobic capacity, body mass index – this is to ascertain body composition, press ups – this is to ascertain muscular endurance of participantpull up / flexed arm hang- this is to test upper body strength and endurance.Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation and inferential statistic of student t-test were used for the study. The six hypotheses formulated and tested were accepted as they were not significant.It was therefore concluded that the fitness status of teachers in both public and private secondary schools are of comparable status. It was recommended that the physical fitness status of teachers in both public and private secondary schools should be regularly monitored to ensure that they are maintained.
