A method for developing a moist-soil dielectric spectroscopic database in the microwave band

The method considered in this paper for developing a spectroscopic database of moist-soil dielectric properties in the microwave band is based on the generalized refractive mixing dielectric model proposed in [1, 2]. This model makes it possible to derive the Debye parameters of bound and free soil water and also the maximum bound-water fraction value for different types of soil by using dielectric-constant (DC) and loss-factor (LF) measurement data as functions of the volumetric moisture content. A set of these parameters, complemented with DC and LF values for dry soil, permits one to calculate the mentioned characteristics for moist soil in the entire microwave band.
