Instrument design for economic installation

1982
This paper shows how advances in technology and prefabricated equipment relating to the installation of instrumentation have forced the instrument designer to expand his/her scope of knowledge. The instrument designer must ensure that he provides a cost effective installation. This is made more difficult at this time by the increased demand for hydrocarbon processing plants that are efficient in energy usage and produce profitable products using lower quality feedstocks. These demands have spurred new developments in processing and instrumentation. The desire to reduce field labor during construction and its associated quality control problems likewise has spurred development of new prefabricated equipment. The discussion covers the following topics - evaluating alternatives; examples of cost effective installation in petroleum refineries; new support techniques. 1 refs.
