Czochralski growth of rare-earth orthosilicates-Y2SiO5 single crystals

Abstract Single crystals of pure and Eu-doped yttrium silicate Y 2 SiO 5 (YSO) were grown by the Czochralski technique with a RF-heating apparatus heated iridium crucible. The growth conditions for producing the inclusion free single crystals of high optical quality are discussed in this paper. YSO crystal boules were grown to a size approximately 35 mm in diameter and 130 mm in length and weighed 486 g.
