Investigation on the rheological behavior of nylon 6/11

2006
Abstract The rheological behavior of nylon 6/11 was investigated using XYL-II capillary rheometer. The experimental results indicated that both nylon 11 and nylon 6/11 melts were pseudoplastic and exhibited shear-thinning behavior. The weight fractions ( ϕ C ) of caprolactam had a similar influence on the shear stress ( τ w ) at fixed shear rate ( γ w ) and apparent viscosity ( η a ), both τ w at fixed γ w and η a reached their maximum when ϕ C  = 15 wt%. The reduction of the viscous activation energy with the increase of shear stress reflected that nylon 6/11 can be processed over a wider temperature at a constant shear stress.
