Quantitative interpretation of the response of Solvent-Quenched Pressure Sensitive Paints (SQ-PSPs) to pressure

2021
Abstract A semi-empirical equation describing the response of Solvent-Quenched Pressure Sensitive Paints (SQ-PSP) to pressure has been derived on the basis of phenomenological and thermodynamic considerations. Next, a method for determination of the coefficients present in the equation was proposed and fidelity of the predictions based on the equation was verified by comparison of the predictions to real experimental data. The model SQ-PSPs were composed of pressure-sensitive europium(III) complexes incorporated into polyacrylate or polysiloxane polymer matrices containing toluene in the role of the quencher. It has been found that the proposed equation fits very well to experimental data, so it can be used for calibration of the SQ-PSPs response to changes of pressure in the applications of SQ-PSPs for mapping pressure distribution on surfaces.
