Índice cintura-cadera y sangrado perioperatorio en pacientes sometidos a prostatectomía radical

2016
Background: Radical prostatectomy is associated with perioperative bleeding and multiple transfusions. Abdominal obesity is a perioperative risk factor. We suggest that the adipocytes have a protective effect in oncological patients undergoing radical prostatectomy. The aim was to evaluate the effect of waist-hip ratio (WHR) on the amount of bleeding and perioperative transfusion requirements in oncological patients undergoing radical prostatectomy. Methods: We performed a cohort study in 156 patients. We had two groups: the control group (WHR < 0.95) and the problem group (WHR ≥ 0.95). Blood loss and fractions transfused during surgery and in the postoperative period were recorded. In the analysis of variables, for descriptive statistics we used measures of central tendency and dispersion. Inferential statistics was obtained by chi square, Student’s t test, MannWhitney U and ANOVA. A p < 0.05 was significant. Results: We found significant differences in weight, body mass index, waist, WHR, perioperative bleeding, fractions transfused, permanence of the catheter, and hospital days. Conclusion: Patients who underwent radical prostatectomy with a WHR ≥ 0.95 had a magnitude of perioperative bleeding and transfusion requirements with a WHR < 0.95.
