Experimental study of a high power cw chemical oxygen–iodine laser

The chemical oxygen-iodine laser (COIL) oscillates at 1.315 µm, utilizing the transition between the first electronically excited and ground states of atomic iodine. The excited state of atomic iodine is produced through resonant energy transfer from O2(1Δ), and the excited oxygen is generated by a pure chemical reaction between basic hydrogen peroxide (BНP) and chlorine gas.
