Mitral Valve Disorders

2018
Mitral valve stenosis is most commonly caused by rheumatic heart disease. This chapter describes the hemodynamic findings and potential pitfalls of hemodynamic assessment in patients with known or presumed mitral stenosis as well as the effects of mitral balloon valvuloplasty. Mitral regurgitation is one of the most common valvular lesions and this chapter will also describe the hemodynamic findings of mitral regurgitation as well as the changes in hemodynamics seen with trans-catheter therapies.
